Samuel and Stuart Lyon papers, 1869-1971.

Contains the following types of materials: correspondence, letters, memoirs, clippings, books, manuals, obituary. Contains information pertaining to the following wars: Spanish American, Cuban campaign. General description of the collection: Samuel and Stuart Lyon papers include the papers of General Lyon and his son, Stuart. Samuel's diary includes his experiences as a civilian accompanying his uncle, Lieutenant Albert L. Mills and a battalion of the 1st U.S. Cavalry Regiment on a round-trip march between Fort Custer and Fort Meade in 1889. The next large body of material concentrates on the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection, 1898-1901; diary, correspondence, and reminiscences of elder Lyon. Finally, correspondence of both Samuel and Stuart is available for the period 1917-1919. An obituary summarizes Samuel's whole life, 1869-1939.
